A delightful self-contained bed and breakfast suite situated in a secluded wooded valley straddling the river Tardoire, Forge Neuve is in the perfect position for exploring the Poitou Charentes, Aquitaine and Limousin regions. This beautiful property with its impressive secluded grounds is located in the heart of the regional park of Périgord - Limousin ("Le Parc Naturel Régional du Périgord Limousin”) on the borders of the Dordogne and Charente departments, with the Haute Vienne being only 3 kilometres up the road.
Forge Neuve, as the name implies, was originally a forge powered by a water wheel in the river Tardoire which flows through the gardens and continues on to join the major Charente river. The stone property was built over 200 years ago, the main building formerly being two separate houses, but now restored to a large family home. Whilst the forge is no longer there, you can still see where it once adjoined the wall of the stone barn in the garden.
The self-contained, newly decorated south end of the house is offered as B & B accommodation all year round and includes:-
- spacious bedroom with double bed and built-in storage units
- large lounge furnished with a comfortable sofa bed offering sleeping for a further 2 people
- shower room with sink, toilet and corner shower cubicle with built in seat, mirror, radio and power jets
- sunny south-facing balcony with table and chairs overlooking the grassed paddock area
- refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, crockery, cutlery and glasses
- books, games and DVD’s are available in the lounge, or bring your own
- use of the large garden to the side of the house, which runs down to the banks of the river, excellent for trout fishing
- sun beds and badminton net and rackets
- centrally heated rooms for the colder months
- the many local villages offer a variety of stores, supermarkets, post offices, banks, chemists, churches, chateaux, bars and restaurants
- local markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a large choice of leisure and sporting activities
Guests should note that the banks of the river are not fenced, so the accommodation is not suitable for children under 5 or pets.
